Curriculum Overview

Our curriculum vision is centred around ensuring all pupils achieve their very best and lays the foundations to prepare pupils for their role as lifelong learners and citizens of the future.

It is built on a deep understanding of the children and the community we serve, and is structured to ensure that children leave our school with the knowledge, understanding and skills needed for the next stage of their learning journey.

Curriculum Aims

Because of our drive to ensure all Hartley pupils have the chance to succeed regardless of their starting points, we’ve designed a curriculum that is:

  • Relevant – Subjects are taught in a way that relates to children’s lives and experiences.
  • Balanced – We promote intellectual, moral, spiritual, creative, emotional and physical development.
  • Broad – Children experience a wide range of knowledge and skills across the entire curriculum.
  • Memorable – Enrichment opportunities such as visits enhance learning and support personal development.

Our curriculum is drawn from the National Curriculum, specialist knowledge across the Learning in Harmony Trust, and high-quality published resources such as White Rose Maths. Subjects are taught in blocks or weekly as appropriate, ensuring depth, recall and high-quality progression from one year group to the next.
